TopSpec TopChop Zero — Ultra-Low Calorie Mature Forage Chop for Horses & Ponies

🌾 Mature Forage • Very Low-Calorie • Helps Weight Control & Hindgut Health

TopSpec TopChop Zero is a natural chopped oat straw feed specially formulated as an exceptionally low-energy forage option for overweight horses and ponies, or those needing a very low-calorie fibre source. Made from British chopped oat straw with apple flavour and mint for palatability, this high-fibre feed helps extend forage intake while supporting digestive comfort.

Key Benefits

Extremely low calorie & low energy — ideal for overweight horses and ponies, or equines on restricted diets.
High fibre, low sugar & starch — supports sustained chewing and digestive health without excess energy.
Pasture-like forage option — helps maintain gut fill and hindgut microflora when hay or grass is limited.
Naturally flavoured — apple and mint inclusion improves intake and palatability without added sugar/molasses.
Non-heating & dust-extracted — gentle on digestion and more comfortable for sensitive horses.

📊 Typical Specification / Nutritional Info

(Check the current bag label for confirmed values.)

Feature / Nutrient Benefit
Digestible Energy ~4 MJ/kg Very low energy for controlled diets
Fibre ~35 % Supports hindgut function & chewing behaviour
Sugar & Starch ~1 % Very low non-structural carbs
Protein ~4 % Mature forage level protein
Oil ~2 % (linseed) Minimal additional calories

TopChop Zero provides much lower energy than typical hay, making it useful as a partial hay or haylage replacer or as a very low calorie mixer chop.

🧴 Composition & Features

TopChop Zero is made from British chopped oat straw with natural apple flavour and mint oil to keep it appetising without adding molasses or sugar coatings. Limestone is included to help balance calcium, and a tiny amount of cold-pressed linseed oil helps prevent the chop becoming too “fly-away.” It contains no artificial additives, preservatives or colourings.

This makes it an excellent option for horses needing to maintain long chewing time and gut health while limiting overall caloric intake.

🪣 Feeding & Usage Guide

  • Partial hay replacer: Use when you want to reduce overall energy intake but keep fibre flowing.

  • Weight control: Feed to overweight horses and ponies prone to weight gain or metabolic conditions.

  • Laminitis & good-doers: Suitable as a mature forage alternative for metabolic horses with restricted diets.

  • Ensure horses always have fresh, clean water available.

Introduce gradually when switching from hay or other forage.

📈 Ideal For

• Overweight horses and ponies needing a low-calorie diet
• Good-doers prone to laminitis or weight gain
• Horses on restricted grass turnout
• Use alongside controlled feeding programmes to maintain hindgut health
