Workload influences the quantity and type of feed. Good quality fibre sources like Alfa-A Original can meet the energy needs of most horses and ponies in light to medium work. Add a balancer or vitamin/mineral supplement to complete the diet.
Feed on its own or combine with cubes/mix for higher energy needs. If feeding as the sole bucket feed, include a broad-spectrum balancer or supplement. Ideal as a palatable fibre base when transitioning off sweeter mixes/cubes.
Can I feed Alfa-A Original to an ulcer-prone horse?
Yes. As an alfalfa-based, low-starch (2%) fibre feed, it’s suitable for horses prone to ulcers, and is useful when transitioning from sweeter mixes/cubes to a fibre-based diet.
How much molasses is in Alfa-A Original?
Typically 15–18% molasses is added to evenly coat the lightweight chopped alfalfa. Overall sugar is ~12%. A large round Stubbs scoop provides ~40g sugar.
Can I feed Alfa-A Original to sheep/goats?
Yes. Suitable for other animals including sheep and goats, especially those with higher energy needs (e.g., pregnant or lactating).
